Mixing

Mix at 40°C and feed at 38°C

Concentration

Mix 150 G of milk replacer with 850 Ml of water to make one litre of finished product.

Feeding

Allow access to water, barley straw and calf dry feed after day 7, slowly increase ad lib feeding, allow the trough to be emptied by the calves between milk feeds to stop potential bloat and to allow constant fresh dry feed.

Twice A Day Feeding

Mix at 150 G per 850 Ml of water, feed 2 litres in the morning and 2 litres in the afternoon. Offer calf dry feed, barley straw and fresh water after day 7.

Once a day feeding

Only feed once a day after 2 weeks of age.

Mix at 250g of milk replacer with 1 litre of water, to make 1.25 litres of finished product, feed 2.5 litres once a day. Offer calf dry feed and barley straw and fresh water after day 7.

Ad Lib Machine Feeding

Mix at 125 G per 875 Ml of water, offer dry feed, barley straw and fresh water after day 7.

Computerised Feeding

Set mixing rate at 12.5% to 15% depending on milk replacer spec. Offer calf dry feed, barley straw and fresh water after day 7.

Feeding Tips

  1. Ensure calves have adequate supply of colostrum this especially important for the first 6 hours continue feeding dams colostrum for the first 24 hours. Supplement with Patavie if dams colostrum is insufficient in quality of quantity.
  2. Wean calves off milk when they are eating over 1.5 Kg of dry feed per day.
  3. Mix milk at a consistent temperature every day (mix at 40°C feed at 38°C )
  4. Mix milk properly before feeding. Use detergent and hot water to clean equipment.
  5. The height of teats, troughs and buckets is vital please ask your calf company representative for further information.
